Scotland follows NICE in offering double cochlear implants

Executive Summary
The NHS in Scotland is from today widening access to cochlear implants, by offering implantation in both ears to profoundly deaf children, and to profoundly deaf adults who are also blind and/or have other disabilities that increase their reliance on hearing. The move echoes guidance issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to the NHS in England and Wales, at the end of January. Prior to these updates, official policy across the NHS was to offer such patients one cochlear implant.
