Brazil invests R$42m in surveillance systems

Executive Summary

Brazil's healthcare surveillance laboratories are to get almost R$42m (US$23.7m) this year to upgrade their facilities and to address new operational demands. The network of 27 central public health laboratories (Lacens) and the national healthcare quality controls institute (INCQS) are to receive, on the one hand, more than R$16.7m, to be shared among the laboratories for infrastructural and equipment improvements; on the other, R$25.1m will go to funding the network's operational costs in 2008.
