This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Chile and Brazil have signed a series of bilateral accords in a range of areas including health technology and trade. Biotechnology and genomics are among the areas of common interest in medical research; the two countries plan to set up new projects in these areas. The Chilean and Brazilian presidents, Ricardo Lagos and Fernando Henrique Cardoso, met last week in Arica, northern Chile, to also sign commercial agreements that seek to improve the flow of trade between the two countries, such as by reducing import/export tariffs. Other technical co-operation agreements involve joint investments in Brazilian small and medium-sized companies, reports the state news agency Agencia Brasil.
