Executive Summary
The French government has revised the rates that the state pays to hospitals for performing mammography in the light of its forthcoming breast cancer screening programme. Bilateral mammographies of at least two incidences will be reimbursed at the rate of E66.42($58.3). The revision of the reimbursement tariffs was one of the factors holding up the introduction of the new programme, but the government is also drawing up guidelines for services and rules for equipment (see Clinica No 975, p 2). The national screening programme is aimed at women between the ages of 50 and 74.
