Executive Summary
Boston Scientific has CE-marked for sale in Europe its Filterwire EX embolic protection device for use in coronary and saphenous vein graft applications. The device is designed to capture embolic material that become dislodged during vascular interventional procedures and that might otherwise travel through the blood to the heart or brain causing a heart attack or stroke. It was CE-marked for use in the peripheral circulatory system last October. Boston, of Natick, Massachusetts, acquired the product earlier this year after buying US firm Embolic Protection (see Clinica No 947, p 13).
