HIV infection in the Asia-Pacific region will double by the year 2000, according to experts meeting this week in the Philippines. The region accounted for more than a third of the 2.7 million new HIV infections in the world last year and 30% of new cases among children. There are 3.75 million infected people in the region which now has the highest growth of HIV infection in the world, delegates at the Fourth International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific were told.
