Executive Summary

Vitamin A and HIV: Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 118 offspring of HIV-infected women in Durban, South Africa finds that vitamin A-supplemented children had lower "overall morbidity" than the placebo group. Among the 85 children of known HIV status (28 infected, 57 uninfected), morbidity associated with diarrhea was "significantly reduced in the supplemented infected children," the study found. However, supplementation had no effect on diarrhea among uninfected children.
