POISON CONTROL CENTERS REFERENCE ON OTC LABELING RECOMMENDED by FDA Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee member Cage Johnson, MD, University of Southern California, as an item that should be retained in FDA's Feb. 27 proposed OTC drug label reform regulation. Speaking at NDAC's July 14 meeting in Bethesda, Md, Johnson said he "would strongly support the inclusion of `Poison Control Center' as a source of assistance" on OTC labels "rather than the somewhat nebulous `get medical help'" message suggested in the agency's proposed rule ("The Rose Sheet" March 3, pp. 11-13). The Poison Control Center is "the source of the most topical, most accurate information in cases of accidental overdose," Johnson maintained.
