A human papilloma virus vaccination programme to prevent cervical cancer was launched in Northern Ireland on September 3rd. The vaccine will be offered to girls aged 12-13 in schools across Northern Ireland; additionally, girls aged 17-18 will be able to receive the vaccine through their GP surgeries starting this month. A catch-up programme for girls aged 13-18 will be introduced over the next three years, beginning next September.
