Dr David Blumenthal has been named US national co-ordinator for health information technology. He is the founding director of the Massachusetts General Hospital's Institute for Health Policy and a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, and he served as a senior health advisor to the Obama presidential campaign. He will lead implementation of a nationwide interoperable health information technology infrastructure called for in the recent economic stimulus law.
