The total value of global M&A activity in the life sciences and healthcare sector in the first quarter of 2009 exceeded that for the whole of 2008, according to a new report by the mergers and acquisitions intelligence service, mergermarket. The value of deals announced in the first three months of this year was $166 billion, in stark contrast to the $14.7 billion recorded for Q1 2008 and $114 billion recorded for the whole of 2008.
