Pankaj R Patel, chairman and managing director of Zydus Cadila, has taken over as president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), which represents leading domestic companies. Mr Patel, previously vice-president of the IPA, succeeds Sudhir Mehta, chairman of the Torrent group. Dr Prakash A Mody, chairman and managing director of Unichem Laboratories, takes over as vice-president. Formed with eight members in November 1999, the IPA now has 12 Indian member companies that account for more than one-third of the country’s pharmaceutical exports.
