Executive Summary
The Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge is to undergo a £200 million expansion and renovation using £67 million in funding from the UK government. The LMB, which is run by the Medical Research Council, has produced 13 Nobel Prize winners and was where the structure of DNA was discovered. John Denham, secretary of state for innovation, universities and skills, commented that investment in the laboratory's redevelopment would help to retain and attract top medical research scientists. The new site is also expected to enable researchers to work closely with Cambridge University's clinical school and its Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to apply scientific breakthroughs.
