Mexican operating policy change allows generic availability

This article was originally published in Scrip

Executive Summary

The Mexican government has lifted the requirement that pharmaceutical companies operating in the country must have a manufacturing plant in Mexico to use or sell generic versions of AIDS and other drugs. The move, by the Mexican Ministry of Economy, will allow less expensive generic versions of drugs to be available in the country. Patricia Campos, Latin America Bureau Chief for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), said the action could "dramatically improve" the lives of many Mexicans. The policy is effective immediately.
