Brazil to send medicines to Gaza

This article was originally published in Scrip

Executive Summary

Brazil's health ministry is to send 4.7 tons of medicines to the Gaza Strip following a request from a Palestinian Authority special delegation, the ministry announced last week. Israel's recent military assault on the Palestinian territory has left the area in serious need of medical supplies. The supplies will include 4.3 tons of hydrochlorothiazide to treat arterial hypertension and 10,000 packs of oral re-hydration salts. They mark the first provisions to be sent to the area by the ministry, it says. "This is a gesture to show Brazil's solidarity with the Palestinian people who are facing a serious humanitarian crisis of great proportions," said Eduardo Botelho Barbosa, an advisor to the health ministry on international affairs.
