UK mission looking to boost Asian pharma and other trade

This article was originally published in Scrip

Executive Summary

The UK minister for trade and investment, Gareth Thomas, is on a mission through Southeast Asia to highlight the opportunities for UK firms in this comparatively fast-growing region, including in the pharma sector. He will also stress the benefits of investing in the UK and of partnering with British business. The mission starts this week in Singapore and then moves to Taiwan, where Mr Thomas will call for a reduction in regulations and improved market access. Regular reimbursement price reductions and the dominance of the local generics-based industry have been particular concerns for foreign R&D-based drug firms in this market. The minister will also visit Vietnam and Malaysia.
