GSK provides $2.2 million of antibiotics to Zimbabwe

Executive Summary

Direct Relief International has received $2.2 million worth of antibiotics from GlaxoSmithKlineto help aid and relief efforts in Zimbabwe. The six antibiotics, including Augmentin (amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate), Ceftin (cefuroxime axetil) and Bactroban (mupirocin) cream, were specifically requested by Harare Central Hospital's chief executive and pharmacist Julius Nderere, and will be used to treat patients in the capital's hospital. The contribution follows $1.3 million in aid to tackle cholera provided to the country by Direct Relief last month (Scrip Online, December 11th, 2008).
