Executive Summary
Paola Testori Coggi has been appointed director-general at DG Sanco, the European Commission's directorate-general for health and consumers, whose responsibilities now include pharmaceutical policy and the European Medicines Agency. Ms Testori Coggi, an Italian national, has been deputy director-general since August 2007, and was responsible for the white paper on food safety and the legislative action programme from 2000 until 2007. She succeeds Robert Madelin, who takes over as director-general for the information society and media. Both appointments take effect on 1 April.
