Executive Summary
Roche's head of pharma global technical operations, Dr Patrick Yang, has received the Public Service Medal (Friends of Singapore) from the government of Singapore, for his contributions to the island state's biomedical sciences industry. Dr Yang was vice-president of Merck & Co's Asia-Pacific manufacturing operations from 1997 to 2000 and was involved in the US firm's decision to invest in manufacturing capacity in Singapore. He also oversaw Genentech's (Roche) $500 million total investment in biologics manufacturing in Singapore through the acquisition of a plant from Lonza and another facility.
