New EU laws on counterfeit medicines and pharmacovigilance edged a step closer to approval today after a European Parliament committee adopted the draft legislation in first reading with a firm emphasis on protecting public health. The proposals are part of the "pharmaceutical package" drawn up by the European Commission.
