The extremely hot weather in the European part of Russia this summer combined with the smoke from burning forests have had a detrimental impact on public health there. Fortunately, temperatures, which had been higher than 35 degrees centigrade, have dropped in the past few days and many fires have now been extinguished, but the extent of the health problems caused have still to be determined.
