Amgen's George Rathmann dies at 84

George Rathmann, founding CEO of Amgen, has died aged 84 as a result of complications from pneumonia. Mr Rathmann served as Amgen's CEO from 1980 to 1988 and as board chair until 1990, and was regarded as one of the founding fathers of biotechnology. On leaving Amgen, he became CEO and chair of Settle-based biotech ICOS Corporation, which was acquired by Lilly, and subsequently CEO and chair of genomics company Hyseq.
