The US FDA has stopped short of a recall after it emerged that numerous lots of different medicines sold by Hospira in its Carpuject prefilled cartridges may contained overfilled cartridges. The agency said it was advising pharmacists and other healthcare providers to check cartridges before dispensing and administration and return just those containing excess medication, "because a recall of the affected products would result in an immediate shortage".
