This article was originally published in Scrip

Executive Summary

Britain's BioIndustry Association (BIA) is calling on the UK government to introduce its own version of France's Fonds Communs de Placements dans l'innovation (FCPI) that could pump an extra £300 million a year into the knowledge economy. In a report, "Citizens' Innovation Funds – Engaging the public with UK innovation"- published 3 September, - the BIA is proposing the introduction of a tax-advantaged scheme that it believes would make it easier for the general public to back innovative early stage businesses and provide an additional source of alternative finance.
