Merck Sharpe & Dohme begins Irish vaccine facility construction

Executive Summary

Merck Sharp & Dohmehas begun construction of its €200 million vaccine facility in Carlow, Ireland. The facility will create 300 jobs during its 18-month construction, as well as 170 jobs in science, engineering, pharmacy, microbiology and management by its planned opening in 2011. It will be the first stand-alone human vaccine project in Ireland, supporting both recently launched vaccines and future products. It is also supported by the government through the Irish investment agency IDA Ireland.
