The lack of efficacy of the 2014-15 flu vaccine became even more apparent on 5 January after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the virus was now widespread in 43 states across the US, with 29 of them reporting high influenza-like illness activity – up from 36 and 22 states, respectively, a week earlier.
