The fungal meningitis outbreak that struck the US in 2012-13 linked to tainted methylprednisolone acetate compounded by a Massachusetts pharmacy – sickening 751 people in 20 states across the US, killing 64 – could have been much worse, with the potential for many more Americans to be dead or ill had it not been for the rapid response to the crisis, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a new analysis.
