Executive Summary
The Canadian government has appointed Leona Aglukkaq minister of health, the first woman from Nunavut to be appointed to a federal cabinet. Ms Aglukkaq was first elected to the Nunavut Legislative Assembly in 2004 where she served as finance minister and health minister, one of only two women in the 19-member assembly. She is also a former public servant, holding the positions of assistant deputy minister in two departments and deputy clerk of the legislature in 2000-02.
