Patients in England and Wales with low back pain are to be advised to take paracetamol as the first medication option in guidance being prepared for the national health service. TheNational Institute for health and Clinical Excellence's draft guideline on the acute management of patients with chronic (longer than six weeks) non-specific low back pain also includes recommendations on manual therapy, acupuncture, exercise and combined physical and psychological treatments.
