Fred Hassan, chairman and CEO of Schering-Plough, has been elected to a second two-year term as president of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations. He was first elected in 2006 to replace Dr Daniel Vasella of Novartis. Haruo Naito, president and CEO of Eisai was re-elected vice-president. David Brennan, CEO of AstraZeneca, has also been elected vice-president, replacing Dr Alessandro Banchi, who is stepping down as an IFPMA officer and retiring from Boehringer Ingelheim at the end of the year.
