Cuba, China to Jointly Produce Larvicide (China)

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

Cuba and China have signed an agreement for China to finance a production project in Cuba to produce large-scale quantities of a larvicide called Bactivec. This larvicide helps combat dengue fever outbreaks, and Cuba has been looking to boost its own domestic production of Bactivec. China also will sell Cuba 6 million doses of Bactivec under the deal, and donate 500,000. Dengue fever is spread through the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, and up to 20 percent of patients may die from it.
