Chili Pepper Compound May Help Protect Stomach Walls From Helicobacter Bacteria (South Korea)

Executive Summary

A South Korean scientist has found the chemical, capsaicin, may be a prospective method of eradicating helicobacter pylori bacteria. Capsaicin is the element which causes chili peppers to taste spicy. During the study, Yonsai Medical School Professor Lee Yong-chang and his team added capsaicin to the mucus gel layer that makes up the stomach lining. They then infected the mucus gel with helicobacter pylori bacteria.
