Hong Kong Widens Health Inspections After Melamine In New Product

Hong Kong officials have ordered broader inspection of products from mainland China after the chemical melamine was discovered in yet another product. Hong Kong's regional secretary for food and health said melamine possibly added to chicken feed had led to traces of the chemical in eggs from the mainland, so the automatic inspections would include mainland meat in addition to other food and drug products. Premier Wen Jiabao has acknowledged the Chinese government failed to use the regulatory authority of the State FDA to guard against contaminated products.
