Executive Summary
A New Zealand device maker says it has developed a device, qViro, capable of counting the viruses in a sample within minutes. Other devices count viruses, but the qViro made by Australo is desk-top size compared with competitors as large as washing machines that require days to provide a result and cost five times as much. Australo expects to begin marketing its qViro in April. The device works by pulling single molecules through a "nanopore," and is capable of being adjusted to count particles of a particular size.
