In the first of two rounds of doses, Bangladesh authorities gave 22 million children an oral vaccine against polio and followed up with a house-to-house canvass to make sure no child was overlooked. The second round of the oral polio vaccines is set for Jan. 3. About 600,000 health care workers and volunteers also were vaccinated and children under five were given vitamin A capsules as part of the program to immunize all children under the age of five.
