Executive Summary

China's central government will allocate 83.2 billion yuan to support the reform and development of health care, according to a working report at the recent National People's Congress session. The Ministry of Health has identified four key areas in 2008 for implementing the reform: 1) accelerating the health insurance push to cover urban and rural population; 2) setting up a proper public health service system; 3) building a structure for medical treatment and health services; and 4) establishing a national system that ensures basic drug supply and safety.
