India Considers Grants To Private Firms That Find Disease Cures

India is considering creation of an $11 million grant program for drug makers in private industry that develop drugs for major tropical diseases such as tuberculosis. The grant system for private sector companies would be in addition to grants for public-funded research industries and soft loans already allowed to private companies. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has received a proposal from the Department of Science and Technology, which runs the grant program for public institutions.
