X-ray Device Makers In Japan Excluded From Bidding Due To Collusion

Executive Summary

Japan Fair Trade Commission finds that three X-ray device manufacturers have repeatedly been involved in collusive bidding for orders from public hospitals. JFTC has excluded two companies, Tokyo-based Toshiba Medical Systems and Kyodo-based Shimadzu Corporation, from future bidding for violating the anti-trust law. The commission also ordered fined Toshiba Medical Systems and Shimadzu ¥10 million and ¥6.2 million, respectively. The third company, Tokyo-based Hitachi Medical Corp. was not fined and also not excluded from future bidding because it reported the collusive bidding practice to authorities.The three companies account for 70 percent of the X-ray device market in Japan.
