Executive Summary

A Chinese study names cancer and stroke the nation's top fatal diseases, with respiratory and heart disease following, in that order. The two-year research project by the Ministry of Health estimated 85 percent of deaths of Chinese were due to those four diseases and the fifth-highest fatality, injuries and poisoning. The report said the incidence of stroke is five times what has been recorded in Europe and the United States and its cancer rate is near that of the United States, United Kingdom and France.
