Vietnam Health Ministry Says Drug Price Freeze To Continue

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

Vietnam plans to extend its freeze on pharmaceutical prices beyond the current June 30 expiration date, the Ministry of Health says. In fact, the ministry says any domestic or foreign drug maker who raises prices before June 30 will be fined and closed temporarily. Companies have argued the price of imported materials they use to make their drugs requires them to charge more, sometimes just to break even. The price freeze is in the form of a requirement that local agencies not consider any applications for price increases until June 30, leading many companies to reduce production.
