This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

Estimating a gradual increase in generics usage, Sappro-based drug store chain AIN Pharmaciez has taken steps to strengthen its generic drugs wholesale business. AIN plans to supply more outlets through Wholesale Stars, a wholly owned subsidiary established in 2006 focusing on generics wholesale. The company plans on increasing outlets from 600 or so locations to 800, and hopes to increase generics sales to ¥2.5 billion in 2008, a 70 percent increase compared to the previous year. Traditionally, a supplier to middle and small dispensing pharmacies, AIN started to supply major area hospitals such as Hirosaki University Hospitals since last year.
