Kobe-based Sysmex has developed an avian flu testing kit that is able to check for flu virus in 10 minutes. In collaboration with Osaka Prefecture's Institute of Public Health, Sysmex's test kit is also capable to test new virus types as they appear. Using a protein coloring mechanism, the kit uses a cotton stick to take specimen from the throat membrane.
