Japanese Generic Drug Makers Report Profits

Major Japanese generic drugs makers Sawai, Towa Yakuhin and Taiyo Yakuhin reported strong third-quarter fiscal results. Sawai achieved double digit increase in both sales and profit (PharmAsia News Feb.12 2009); Towa's sales grew by 13.7 percent to ¥26.6 billion and net profit increased by 6.7 percent to ¥2.5 billion. The company also revised upward for full year estimated sales. Taiyo's sales increased by 13.4 percent to ¥31.9 billion and ordinary profit increased by 14.2 percent to ¥6.1 billion.
