Olympus, Shimadzu And Keio University To Establish ¥2 Billion Cancer Research Facility

Executive Summary
Japanese medical device makers Olympus and Shimadzu and Keio University will collaborate in establishing a cancer treatment research and development center in 2010. The center will be the first in Japan to focus on developing less invasive therapies and next generation medical devices and drugs such as ultra-compact robots. Out of the ¥2 billion investment, the Japanese government plans to provide ¥800 million. Two major industrial companies Yokogawa Electric and Hamamatsu Photonics also plan to join in the project.
