Asahi Kasei Medical announced Jan. 30 a plan to double its production capacity for virus filters. The company will invest ¥2.5 billion and establish a second production line at its facility in Oita city by March 2010. Widely used in the pharmaceutical production process, the filters are able to deactivate HIV or hepatitis virus mixed in animal by-products used as pharmaceutical materials.
