GE Healthcare To Market India-Developed Portable Heart Monitor

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

GE Healthcare's seven-pound MAC 800 heart monitor, which it expects to market in the United States, was the result not of U.S. technology, but of engineers in China and India. The company has been expanding its engineering staff in those countries for just over a decade. Indian engineers developed the MAC 800's forerunner as part of an effort to make a portable diagnostic that Indian physicians could carry into rural villages. The result was a device only a fifth of the size of existing monitors, and is to be marketed in the U.S. by GE for $2,500. (Click here for more
