Australia Pharmacists Tighten Allowable Sales Of Painkillers

Executive Summary

Australian pharmacists have adopted a policy of screening customers who seek to buy painkillers containing addictive ingredients such as codeine. The Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the Australian Self-Medication Industry announced the checks as part of an effort to deal with abuse of the medicines, primarily Nurofen Plus and Panadeine Plus. Pharmacists are to counsel customers before they buy the drugs and limit purchases of no more than a five-day supply.
