Thailand Orders H1N1 Antivirals For All Patients With Chronic Illnesses

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

Thailand's Public Health Ministry says it will give antivirals for the H1N1 flu virus as a general practice to 2.4 million people who have chronic diseases. The ministry decided on the tactic after learning most of the deaths from the virus occurred in people who had a chronic disease such as asthma, heart, diabetes or cancer. Under the plan, physicians are instructed to give Roche's Tamiflu (oseltamivir) to all patients seeking medical treatment and who have a chronic disease instead of waiting for lab tests.
