China To Raise Subsidies For Residents' Medical Insurance

China's Ministry of Finance, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Health recently issued a document on improving the implementation of the country's healthcare reforms. According to the document, government investment will focus on public heath, rural health, urban community health, basic health insurance and TCM. It will encourage multiple channels of fundraising to meet different levels of healthcare requirements of the population. The central and local governments are to increase healthcare financial input at a rate higher than that of regular financial expenditures. Since 2009, residents have been provided standardized basic health services, including those in disease prevention, maternity and child care, as well as health education.
