Artemisinin Said Losing Effectiveness In Treating Southeast Asia Malaria

Executive Summary

The main ingredient in malaria drugs relied on in Southeast Asia is reported to be losing its ability to stop the spread of the disease. A newly published study says artemisinin, the active pharmaceutical ingredient in anti-malaria drugs considered the most effective, now takes nearly twice as long as before to clean out the parasites behind the disease.
